Townsville Cricket

The Townsville Cricket Inc (TCI) has been the heart of cricket in North Queensland for over a century, fostering the development of the sport at both grassroots and elite levels. Established in the early 1900's, TCI was formed to bring together local clubs and provide a structured competition for the growing number of cricket enthusiasts in the region. With Townsville’s warm climate and long summers, the sport quickly flourished, attracting players from all walks of life and becoming an integral part of the local sporting culture. In the 1926-27 season there were 25 senior teams playing across 3 grades.

Throughout its history, TCI played a crucial role in nurturing young talent and providing pathways for players to progress to state and national levels. Over the decades, Townsville has hosted numerous high-profile matches, including Sheffield Shield games and international fixtures, further cementing its reputation as a key cricketing hub in Queensland. The development of high-quality facilities, such as the renowned Riverway Stadium, enabled TCI to attract top-tier cricket events while also providing local players with the opportunity to showcase their skills on a bigger stage.

North Queensland Cricket Association

The North Queensland Cricket Association (NQCA) has been a cornerstone of representative cricket in the region for over a century, providing a structured pathway for talented players to compete at higher levels. Established to oversee and develop representative cricket across North Queensland, the NQCA has played a pivotal role in uniting local cricket associations and fostering elite competition. With a vast geographical reach covering regional and remote areas, the association has worked tirelessly to ensure that players from all backgrounds have the opportunity to excel in the sport.

One of the NQCA’s primary focuses has been developing and supporting representative teams that compete at regional and state levels. Over the years, North Queensland has produced a wealth of talented cricketers who have gone on to represent Queensland Country, Queensland, Australian country and even Australia. The association has been instrumental in running high-performance programs, talent identification initiatives, and specialist training camps to further develop our junior and senior players. Through these efforts, the NQCA established itself as a crucial stepping stone for ambitious cricketers aiming to progress through the ranks.

NQCA is proud to have supported the development of players through to senior Queensland and Australian levels such as Mitchell Johnston, Sianna Ginger, Sam Scuderi, Joe Scuderi, Luke Feldman, David Todd, Darren Frakes and Stephanie Baldwin.

Today, the North Queensland Cricket Association continues to be at the forefront of representative cricket, fostering a competitive environment for players to test their skills against the best in the state.
