Candi Dempster
CNQ Board | Communications & Marketing

I have been involved in cricket since I was 12 years of age. I played women’s cricket in Brisbane for many years as well as coached U/17 boys and also girls teams. In my youth, I was fortunate to play for Queensland in both the U/18 and U/21 sides.
Cricket is a game of skill, teamwork and intelligence. It builds a sense of confidence, fun and purpose in participants as the team grows to know each other, and the game. Cricket also builds character as you have to respect each other and have perseverance and resilience to work together to get the job done.
I always remember a quote from one of my coaches-
“It only takes one lapse of concentration to miss a ball and get out. Be calm, confident and focus. You can’t score runs from the shed”.
I’ve always wanted to be involved and out in the field, rather than being in the shed.
It’s a joy to be on the board and a part of Cricket North Queensland, contributing to build the sport I love and one that has given so much to me over the years.
